Over the last few weeks, you may probably have heard how everyone has been creating a social buzz about the new Clubhouse App. If you’re a tech enthusiast, it’s pretty obvious to know that the aforementioned app needs no introduction as it has already started to gain widespread popularity among Malaysians today.
Furthermore, with over 8.1 million downloads globally, it is without a doubt that the app is making its mark among social media fans these days. But for those who might still be in the dark about the new iOS only app, we are here to offer you some light at this moment.
The Clubhouse app which is currently offered only for iOS devices is a social networking app which is typically based on audio chat operation. Among the many features that can be utilized by an avid Clubhouse user would be the ability to listen in to conversations, interviews and discussions between people based on an array of interesting topics.
However, here’s the catch: The Clubhouse app can only be accessed through invites. What this essentially means is that you will still be able to directly download the said app from the Apple App Store much like many other social apps in the market right now but you’ll need an existing member to invite you first before moving on towards the sign up process.
As previously mentioned, you will first need to get an invite by another Clubhouse user. Upon receiving the invitation, you will then be greeted by a link texted to your number, which also typically means an OTP number to begin your registration process via its sign up page in the app.
However, keep in mind that these Clubhouse invites are numbered. At the time of writing, invites are only capped at a maximum of 2 counts. In other words, Clubhouse users do not have the freedom to invite as many invitees as they wish. That being said, you might want to consider who are your closest pals before sending out an invitation.
Clubhouse is built on exclusivity. Why? Because it was launched by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Paul Davidson and Rohan Seth in March 2020. Still a relatively new app, but sources have said that Clubhouse managed to score 1500 users and was worth a whopping US$100m in May last year.
When it was launched, the app centralised more importance on investors but soon expanded its horizons to regular people like you and me as well. So, don't be surprised if you find the likes of Elon Musk, Kevin Hart, Drake and other famous names within the Clubhouse ecosystem as well. Maybe it’s time for us to share the spotlight with them.
Within the Clubhouse app, you will be allowed to engage in conversations. These conversations depend on your podcast preferences. In typical podcast fashion, you don’t get to see each other but it is like engaging with people via a regular phone conversation. Each conversation room varies between a normal one-on-one conversation with a buddy or an interview room with a large group discussion within.
If you’re one of those who are interested in being the talk of the town or simply love talking about stuff with random people, Clubhouse is your safeplace. Considering the pandemic restrictions at this time, you could use this app to strike up a virtual conversation with someone out there today.
Still, if you are an Android user wanting to get your hands on the new Clubhouse app, we hate to break it to you but it looks like that would not be possible, at least until the Clubhouse developers decide to introduce the app to the Google Play Store. With that said, iOS users, rejoice, it’s time to jump on the Clubhouse bandwagon if you are interested in firing up a conversation right now.
