Google’s Core Web Vitals Bring Improved User Experience For Your Browsing Pleasure

Luke Morais • May 17, 2021

Google has confirmed that Core Web Vitals are now becoming ranking signals for your search results in May 2021. In its official Twitter account @googlesearchc, the team also said that this new update will combine Core Web Vitals and previous UX-related signals together.

With the new and improved update, business to business customers will now be able to experience an improved mobile friendliness, safe browsing, HTTPS-security and intrusive interstitial guidelines for better browsing. Essentially, Core Web Vitals are web signals that work to provide the best experience for users when they are using the web.

For an easier explanation of each segment, Google’s Core Web Vitals are subjected to three different categories and each of it simultaneously plays an important role in providing business to business B2B customers with the best web experience. There is the Largest Contentful Paint, First Input Delay and  Cumulative Layout Shift.

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): The time taken for a page’s main content to load. From the chart below, we understand that a LCP measurement of 2.5seconds is categorized as a Good loading rate.

First Input Delay
: This is the time it takes for a page to become interactive. With a time of 100ms and below, it means that your page is working well for your customers.

Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
: The amount of unexpected layout shift of visual page content. To achieve the best result here, your page needs to score a measurement of less than 0.1

In its official blog page, Google has also said that they will be embedding the quality of a web page’s experience to benefit users when they perform a web search on its browser. When it is made available within the Malaysia region, users will see a snippet or image preview in Google Search to know what information the specific page can provide them. Currently, the team says that this feature is under its testing phase and will provide more information about this in the coming months, if the test is successful.

On a separate note, our website building platform partner- Duda has also been working on this update for a few months now. With that said, if your business is also using the same Duda platform, do note that the platform will be optimised based on Google Core Web Vitals guidelines.

At the time of writing, Google has said that the feature will roll out at the same time as the page experience ranking update. Having said that, you may expect to see this update reaching your devices by the end of this month. So, stay tuned for this convenient and improved update soon!
